Betty Liu joined The Column Group as a Swanson Fellow in 2026. She earned her PhD in Bioengineering at Stanford, where she trained with Dr. William Greenleaf studying transcription factor dosage and cis-regulatory syntax in human development using multiomics and deep learning. Her work has been published in Nature, Cell, and Nature Biotechnology. Betty previously gained venture creation experience as a Flagship Pioneering Fellow and industry experience from BioMarin developing gene therapy purification screening platforms. She holds a B.A.Sc. in Engineering Science from the University of Toronto, where she completed an undergraduate thesis on conditional protein–protein interaction networks with Dr. Fritz Roth.
